Rockwell Automation User Research

About Rockwell Automation

Rockwell Automation provides industrial automation technologies used globally. Chances are, you've interacted with something made using Rockwell equipment. Their technologies are involved in everything from helping ensure uninterrupted power and producing safe medications, to manufacturing your favorite brand of toothpaste or chips. My work focused on the users of this complex, technical software: highly specialized professionals who rely on these tools daily.

The Research Challenge

The challenge at Rockwell was to translate the deep, often messy, reality of these expert workflows into clear, actionable insights for product and design teams. These users are domain experts interacting with complex systems, so our research had to move past surface-level issues to understand their core goals and challenges.

My Role as Lead

As a Lead User Researcher, my focus is on defining and executing research across the entire product lifecycle. I lead key mixed-methods and foundational research initiatives for our complex automation and enterprise products, ranging from early exploratory work to informing the vision for new technologies.

In close partnership with product and design leaders, I deliver insights that help inform our strategic product direction. A key part of my role is also dedicated to improving the UXR practice itself by mentoring researchers and helping shape our team's best practices.
